Backyard Patio Transformation

When we first bought our new home, it had everything we wanted – except the back yard. We knew we needed to give it a life. It was a chunky, parched, wasteland of clay, and half dead grass and weeds.

Hiring a professional hardscape company was not in our budget, but I also did not want to wait for years to enjoy our yard, especially with 4 kids. I was determined to transform it sooner than later. Tommy and I had no idea what we were doing, but we drew up a plan anyway.

We self taught. It took months working weekends and late nights around our work schedules, and cooperating weather. It was hard- but I dreamed of a magical yard.

We built 2 patio areas. This first one is this stunning diamond pattern, for our outdoor lounge space. Raised flower beds border the house, where we will create a plush wall of hydrangeas. String lights, and several fire fixtures make it cozy and inviting for entertaining, and relaxing.

Ideally, on this second patio space, we would have poured all new concrete, but instead opted to just extend the existing with cement tile to stay budget friendly.  This created extra space for the outdoor grill area we’d like to upgrade to next year, and larger outdoor dining table to accommodate our now larger family. A generously sized outdoor rug softens most of the seams.

This space is still a work in progress, but we have come so far. I can’t wait to have our next update, and I can’t wait to make memories here with our family.

Never give up turning your dreams into reality.
